Sowing Time
Indoors: January – December
Outdoors: March – October
Sowing Indoors
Fill a 9cm (3.5in) pot with compost, firming lightly with the base of another pot. Water well. Scatter 10 seeds over the surface and cover with about 1/2cm (1/4in) of compost. Cover pot with cling film and keep warm (10-15 degrees Celsuis). Remove cling film as soon as seedlings emerge.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position but shade from direct sunlight. Water compost when it feels dry to touch.
Sowing Outdoors
Sow seeds thinly in a shallow, pre-watered row. Lightly cover seeds with a little soil. Allow 30cm (12in) between rows. Seedlings do not usually require thinning. Keep soil moist. Remember small sowings made every three weeks ensure a continuous supply.
Aftercare
Water plants generously in dry weather. Sowings made in very warm weather benefit from shade protection. Sowings made in autumn benefit from cloche protection.
Harvest
