Tell Me More…
Davidia Involucrata AGM is charming mid-size scented deciduous tree. The Royal Horticultural Society awarded this tree its prestigious Award of Garden Merit for outstanding garden performance. The leaves emerge almost burgundy and have a ‘spicey’ fragrance . The burgundy leaves turn light green as they mature. In the early summer the tree produces white floral bracts which hang like a ‘handkerchief’ from the branches (in its native China the tree in known as the ‘handkerchief tree’ for this reason). After flowering small fruits are produced before the foliage bursts into autumnal colours and drops. The overripe pear-shaped fruits are edible, though not recommended. This is a wonderful addition to your garden due to the constant changes it makes during the seasons, Grow in full sun or partial shade in a humus rich, well-drained soil. Achieving a mature height of 12m tree. Davidia involucrata does not like being pruned and doing so will affect its growth.
