The slender, arrow-shaped leaves of Zantedeschia ‘Scented Lady’ are held from March through to October time – adding foliage interest to damp gardens, containers and open ground. Throughout summer tall, tempting stems emerge and open to reveal swirling, trumpet-shaped blooms with pronounced creamy-yellow spadix. Blooms have an exotic appeal and are sought after by florists. Zantedeschia ‘Scented Lady’ also has a delicate, freesia-like perfume which adds another level of interest to both the garden and the vase. Plants prefer a moist, well-drained or damp soil which is humus-rich and loam or clay based. Position in full sun or partial shade with any aspect other than north facing. A hardy (H4), herbaceous perennial which loses its leaves over winter and returns, reinvigorated the following spring. In colder areas a protective mulch is recommended, alternatively lift the bulbs and store away from frost.
