Tell Me More…
The deepest blue of all Amsonia, Blue Ice creates graceful clumps of dark-green, willowy foliage which appear in spring. Wiry stems emerge holding slate-blue buds in dense panicles which open to reveal pretty, starry, blue blooms in summer. This amsonia creates a wonderfully colourful weed-suppressing carpet of groundcover.Easy to grow in borders or containers, the neat, rounded mounds of bushy foliage turn an attractive bright golden yellow in autumn generating a late splash of colour. Both the flowers and the foliage are excellent cut for arrangements within your home.Originally native to the woodlands of North America, Amsonia was named after Charles Amson, an 18th century physician.Amsonia Blue Ice is deer and rabbit resistant and is not fussy on soil conditions, even flourishing in clay. Prefers to be in sun or partial shade, reaching a height of 50cm and spread of 60cm. This fully hardy perennial will flourish for years outside in your garden with no winter protection required.
