Silene noctiflora, a rare highly scented plant which is also known by the name, Night-flowering Catchfly. A fascinating beauty, the whole plant is covered with mild sticky hairs which catch the smallest of insects, a tasty treat for larger insects which do not become stuck. The pale pink blooms open at night for summer night-time moths and insects to feed and pollinate, instigating upturned seedpods. The importance of wildflower meadow planting has risen over recent years and can be seen in RHS show gardens. No garden is too small to help our insects, birds, and other wildlife. Present a veritable feast of seeds, leaves, nectar, and pollen, whilst creating a safe habitat for shelter and a perfect place to breed. Reaching a mature height and spread of around 30-60cm, Silene noctiflora prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. A fully hardy annual, seed can easily be collected and sown for the following year.
