Transport your harvest back home in style with the Burgon & Ball traditional, hand-crafted wooden trug. Ecologically produced from strips of shaped FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Populus wood – a tree in the willow family which is harvested and regrows time after time. Your trug is held together with solid brass pin and screw fixings to make it a hard-wearing, natural product with elements of strength and stability at its core. At 40cm long and 23cm wide it is substantial enough for vegetables, cut flowers and other produce whilst remaining comfortable to carry.A trug is defined as a compact, shallow wooden container used for measuring, or carrying garden tools and produce. Trugs are traditionally made from 5 or 7 strips of willow, with a wooden handle and have been around since the 1200’s. Historically they were made from solid wood and the name is thought to derive from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘trog’ meaning ‘the shape of a boat’.A ‘must-have’ garden accessory, trugs are both practical and ornamental as they have a traditional, olde world charm to them, making wonderful gifts for gardening enthusiasts and loved ones.
