Tell Me More…
Native to the Himalayas, Dryopteris lepidopoda is a hardy evergreen fern, notable for the striking, fiery sunset tones of its newly emerged foliage. This gradually matures to a darker, olive green, though new leaves continue to emerge in succession throughout the year. Perfect for a woodland garden, damp, shady border, or container in a partially shaded spot. Prefers moist, humus-rich soil in partial to dappled shade, with shelter from strong winds. H&S: 75cm x 60cm. This evergreen perennial is hardy to around -10 C. It can be a good idea to cover the crown with a dry mulch (leaves, bark, straw) if very cold winter conditions are expected. Remove dead or tatty looking fronds in late winter/ early spring before new ones unfurl.
