Tell Me More…
Astrantia Star of Love is one of the deeper red varieties of Astrantia. The burgundy red pincushion blooms are accented by a matching centre which matures to green-white and is surrounded by a crown of deep red bracts with even darker red tips. These are supported on complimentary dark purple stems to enhance the rich colours that halo the intensely green foliage underneath. This is certainly an eye-catching combination which grows to a height of 50-60cm and forms a 50cm clump when mature. You will find Astrantia Star of Love great a cut flower as well as for dramatic effect in your garden. Furthermore, it is a hardy perennial loved by pollinators as well as people. Plant in full sun or semi-shade in moist but well drained soil so you can enjoy the little hint of dark exoticism this brings to your garden.
