Tell Me More…
Cytisus x praecox ‘Apricot Gem’ brings graceful, arching green stems which bear beautiful, scented pea-like flowers from March to May. Blooms are a fantastic early source of nectar for bees who are sure to visit in earnest, along with other pollinators. The orange-red hues contrast magnificently with the vibrant greens in the garden at this time of year. Shrubs will lend height and impact alongside lower growing plants such as primroses, daffodils and iris which are also prevalent in springtime. As an upright variety, Cytisus x praecox ‘Apricot Gem’ reaches up to 1.5m in height (with a spread of the same). Ideal for an area which has well-drained soil and happy even in a gravel garden or rockery. This colourful shrub is beneficially drought tolerant once a good root structure has been established – an invaluable asset in our unpredictable climate. A hardy, deciduous shrub which prefers a spot in full sun, ideally with a south or west facing aspect.
