Huge apples on a naturally compact variety! Discovered as a chance seedling, Apple ‘Megabite’ is a fast maturing, late variety, developing into a small tree with short branches that carry apples weighing up to 500g (1lb 2oz). Its small proportions make it perfect for growing in a large sunny container. The red-flushed fruits are ready for picking from late October. They are delicious as dessert apples with crisp, juicy flesh that does not turn brown after cutting. They are equally useful for cooking. Excellent resistance to scab and mildew.
Season: Oct – Dec.
Apple rootstock: MM106 – Semi dwarf reaching a mature height of up to 4m (13′).
Pollination: Triploid variety. Self-sterile and will not act as a pollinator. To ensure fruiting, this variety must be planted alongside a suitable pollinator. Pollination group: A.
Growing Information
Plant bareroots at the earliest opportunity following delivery. If conditions prevent immediate planting, heel in to a temporary trench.
Plant apple trees in any well drained soil in a sheltered sunny position. Ensure that the tree is planted to the same depth as it was at the nursery, with the graft union above the soil line. Drive a stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Gently firm the soil around the tree as you go, using your heel. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well.
