Lonicera x tellmanniana, an RHS AGM, grows best in a bright, south-facing location. It is perfect for infusing tropical colour into walls and fences, or as part of an exotic planting scheme. From late spring to midsummer, whorls of fragrance-free, bright orange tubular flowers create an elegant display. The unusual coloration of this twining, deciduous honeysuckle sets it apart from the crowd. Height: 5m (16’). Spread: 2m (6’).
Growing Information
Plant honeysuckle against a suitable, sturdy support such as trellis or strong wires attached to walls and pergolas, in fertile, moist, free draining soil. Poor soils can be improved by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. Choose a position in sun or semi-shade. When growing honeysuckle in patio containers, use soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
