Absolutely stunning and full of charm! Peony ‘Alexander Fleming’ features large, soft pink outer petals that cradle a mound of delicate, ruffled pink inner petals, accented with cream blushes. To top it off, these glorious blooms are fragrantly sweet. This mid-season variety blooms in early to mid-June on a compact, low-growing plant that requires minimal staking. Its dark green, deeply lobed leaves create a lush backdrop, allowing the flowers to truly shine. Herbaceous Peonies like this one are a lifetime treasure in the garden, offering spectacular late spring displays of lavish blooms year after year with very little effort. Perfect for the centre of herbaceous borders, they add elegance, structure, and vibrant colour. They’re also perfect for cutting. Height: 90cm (35in). Spread: 50cm (20in). Culinary note: The petals can be added to fresh salads or lightly cooked and sweetened for a unique treat. Peony water, once a delicacy, can also be made by floating the blooms in punch bowls.
Growing Information
Grow peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position. They prefer a well drained, rich fertile soil. This is best achieved by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant herbaceous peonies at a depth of around 5cm (2″) below the soil surface. Planting too deeply may delay flowering.
