Sorrel ‘Volare’ is a hardy perennial herb that adds a lemony zing to salads, sauces, pasta, and egg dishes. Once sown, it can be harvested for years. Sorrel is one of the earliest crops, ready to harvest in late spring because it is easy to grow and grows quickly. The leaves are high in vitamin C and should be picked when they are young and tender with a slight crunch. 45 cm in height and spread (18″).
Sowing Information
Direct sow sorrel seed outdoors from March to May. Grow sorrel in a well prepared, moist, seedbed in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½in) in drills 30cm apart. When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to 15cm (6in) apart. Fortnightly sowings of sorrel will ensure an ongoing supply of young sorrel leaves for adding to salads.
