Description
The ‘Buccaneer’ is a Dutch variety of walnut which produces a wonderful crop of rounded nuts with creamy white coloured centres. The tasty fruits will usually appear after around 4 years and are a great choice for pickling. The tree itself has a fairly upright habit and is a popular avenue tree. This tree is a relatively heavy cropper and yet the quality is certainly not compromised because of the quantity. Although this is a self-fertile tree, crop yields will be increased further when you plant this tree with a pollination partner like Juglans Rita and it is also a good pollinator for other trees. If you want to pickle your walnuts then pick them in mid-summer before the shell has fully formed, otherwise pick them in autumn.
