Our Early Brassica Collection brings together three reliable and consistently high yielding F1 varieties of Cabbage, Broccoli and Cauliflower. These amazing varieties will give you crops to harvest from late spring to early summer. Collection comprises of 18 plugs from the following varieties: Broccoli Aquiles F1 – Versatile Calabrese variety that crops in late spring to early summer, just 65 days from transplanting. Height: 60cm (24″). Spread: 75cm (30″); Cabbage Duncan F1 – Another versatile variety, an RHS AGM winner for it’s early greens in spring and pointed hearts in summer. Height 40cm (16″). Spread 50cm (20″); Cauliflower Alston F1 – Quick to mature 65-86 days from transplanting and able to withstand hot summers. Head wrapping leaves protect the curds from sun discolouration. Height: 45cm (18″). Spread: 60cm (24″).
Growing Information
Pot up plug plants and grow them on in warm, frost free conditions until plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting out in a sheltered position in firm, rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Consult individual plant descriptions for planting distances. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Water the plants thoroughly after planting.
