Hazelnut ‘Red Cracker’ is a beautiful red filbert with deep red leaves and pretty red husks, and flavorful, crisp, white inner kernels. Because hazelnut ‘Red Cracker’ is self-fertile, it does not require a pollination partner to generate edible nuts. Furthermore, this robust tree is breathtaking in spring with its incredibly appealing foliage, and it also adds winter interest when it is covered in yellow catkins that stay on the tree well. Height and spread: 3m (9′).
Growing Information
When growing Cobnuts, choose a sheltered position on moist, slightly acid, well drained soil in sun or semi shade. Prior to planting Hazelnut trees, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Cobnut trees at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and water well to settle the soil.
