Meconopsis Lingholm

A must-have hardy perennial for every garden!

Meconopsis Lingholm, also widely known as Himalayan Blue Poppies, brings to life even the most difficult areas of the garden, like creating a vibrant display within damp shady areas. The magical, sea blue colour of the 10cm, 4″ across blooms contrast against golden yellow/lime green stems; something not seen in most gardens and highly sought after! This special perennial makes a unique and beautiful focal point throughout the early summer months and can be planted in masses to enjoy year after year as a sea of blue colour returns. Height: 75cm (30″). Spread: 50cm (20″).

Growing Information

Pot up meconopsis plants into peaty compost and grow them on in bright, frost-free conditions with protection from strong, direct sunlight. When they are well grown, acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days, prior to planting out in their final positions. Choose a sheltered spot in semi or dappled shade – a cool, moist woodland situation is ideal, but the Himalayan poppy will also thrive in a moist, shaded border. Meconopsis prefers a rich, moist, neutral to acid, well drained soil that remains moist throughout summer, but does not sit wet in winter.
