This Oca produces starchy, potato like swollen roots that bare a deliciously nutty and zesty lemon taste. A tuberous crop with origins in the Andes, ‘Giggles’ provides edible tubers and leaves, of which are well known as ‘Peruvian Wood Sorrel’, which taste great in salads and other cold green dishes. Oca can be mashed, boiled, roasted and baked, just like you would potatoes! And best of all, you wont need to worry about any potato blight. Height and Spread: 50cm (20”).
Growing Information
Grow plugs on in cool but frost-free conditions and plant out when all danger of frost has passed.
Oca ‘Giggles’ is a perennial grown as an annual in Northern hemispheres. Frost sensitive, plant out in late May allowing 90cm (36”) between each plant. Harvest tubers in late November when top growth has died but before the first heavy ground frosts as tubers will rot. Protect with fleece to extend the season as flavour improves the longer tubers are left. Dry harvested tubers on a sunny window sill.
