Alcea rosea, the exquisite, huge, single flowers of the spectacular cultivar ‘Polarstar’ of the traditional garden hollyhock are known to have a vibrant red centre and range in colour from pristine white to pale yellow. Part of the ‘Spotlight’ series, this biennial or short-lived perennial is renowned for its array of vivid colours and, if sown early, its capacity to bloom in the first year. “Polarstar” is a remarkable architectural plant that may grow up to 6 feet (1.8 metres) tall.
