Apple “Lord Lambourne” was introduced in 1907 and is still competitive with newer varieties. The fruits are uniformly orange-green with red streaks. The flavour is sweet and aromatic, with a hint of strawberry, and is reminiscent of later-ripening varieties with crisp, juicy flesh. This dessert apple is available in mid-September and can be stored until November. An old favourite and one of the most trusted varieties by the masses, as it holds the prestigious RHS AGM.
Growing Information
Plant apple trees in any well drained soil in a sheltered sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well.
