In small gardens it’s essential to have plants that really earn their space – this baby version of the popular Lavatera ‘Barnsley’ hits the mark – with all the flower power of its parent wrapped up in a smaller and more manageable version.
Throughout the summer, Lavatera x clementii ‘Barnsley Baby’ bears masses of pale pink flowers with a darker pink base on strongly branching stems. This drought-tolerant, semi-evergreen sub-shrub is ideal for borders or containers where its flurry of saucer-shaped flowers will attract plenty of admirers as well as bees and butterflies. Height: 75cm (30in). Spread: 60cm (24in).
Growing Information
Pot up plug plants and grow them on in frost free conditions. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise mallow to outdoor conditions for a period of 7 to 10 days. Transplant lavatera plants into borders and containers outdoors in moist, well drained soil in full sun. When growing lavatera in containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
