Peony ‘Sarah Bernhardt,’ is an exquisite herbaceous peony that has captivated gardeners since its debut in 1905. Its enduring popularity is a testament to its sheer flower power and classic charm. This RHS Award of Garden Merit winner is celebrated for its ruffled, double pink blooms, that burst from large, rounded buds into a spectacular floral display.
With a slightly taller stature than most peonies, ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ is perfect for planting towards the back of perennial borders, where its sumptuous blooms rise elegantly above a lush clump of deeply divided, dark green foliage. The long-lasting blooms are perfect for creating elegant bouquets. Height and spread: 90cm (35″).
Growing Information
Bare roots should be planted at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Grow peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, moist, well drained soil. Peony plants prefer a heavy soil that is rich in organic matter. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting. Plant herbaceous peonies so that the top of the crown is just 5cm (2”) below the soil surface, taking care not to plant too deeply as this may prevent or delay peonies from flowering.
