Throughout April and May, Rhododendron ‘Amoena’ generates multitudes of boisterous, magenta-pink blooms that nearly completely cover the evergreen leaves. This charming Japanese azalea creates a lovely highlight in the border when grown in a lovely container on the patio. This clean, evergreen Azalea provides a superb, low-maintenance shrub for year-round structure and colour in the border, thanks to its confined spreading habit. Height and Spread: 120cm (48″).
Growing Information
Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
