Swiss Chard Seeds – Peppermint

The multifunctional vegetable that will create a mouth-watering display

A new and extremely exciting variety, Chard Peppermint is a very attractive two-tone Swiss chard. Stalks graduate from flamingo pink to white, with deep green, savoy type leaf. A multi-functional vegetable, this alluring chard will not only add colour to the veg patch, but also looks stunning in the flower border. Reaching heights of 61-70cm (24-28″); spread 41-50cm (16-20″).

Nothing will go to waste, as everything is edible on the Chard Peppermint. Its leaves can be used just like spinach or cabbage and mid-ribs can be cooked as separate veg or shredded and added to soups and casseroles. Harvest your chard from July through to October and add this delicious variety to your favourite autumnal recipes.

Growing Information

Sow thinly direct into finely raked, moist, warm soil at a depth of 13mm (½”) in rows 30cm (12″) apart. Germination 7-14 days. Thin as required to leave 23-30cm (9-12″) between plants. Grows best in good soil which has not recently been manured. Water well during periods of dry weather to prevent bolting (going to seed).

Sowing Information

Direct sow Leaf Beet seed outdoors from March to August. Grow Swiss Chard in a well prepared, moist, fertile seedbed in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½”) in drills 30cm (12″) apart. Thin seedlings to 7cm (3″) apart for ‘baby leaves’ which will be ready to harvest approximately 50 days from sowing. For larger chards/leaves thin to 15cm (6″) apart, or 23cm (9″) for mature plants.
