Description
The Monarch birch is unlike other trees in the birch family as it grows to have a greater spread than its relatives, and it also has much larger leaves. In spring, new foliage shoots through with a delicate rosy blush, before fading to a vivid mid-green colour for summer. The leaves are some of the best for autumn colour, and they shine with a dazzling golden yellow colour before falling in late autumn. Even after leaf fall, this tree has great interest in the winter garden with its grey bark that peels in horizontal stripes. With spring comes the new batch of heart-shaped green leaves, and these are shortly followed by long yellow catkins on more mature trees. This is a great choice for architectural planting, and this tree will become a real focal point in your garden.
