A white seeded variety of runner bean, ‘White Swan’ also produces white flowers, while it will grow vigorously bursting with high quality pods up to 28cm long in size. When planted next to a red flowered variety, they make for a gorgeous pairing in flower beds or vegetable beds. Height: 3m (10′). Spread: 30cm (12″).
Growing Information
Grow runner beans outdoors in rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade with protection from strong winds. Avoid freshly manured soil which will promote lush foliage instead of beans. Plant runner beans in rows that are 1.5m (5′) apart, or where space is limited, grow beans onto a wigwam structure. Runner beans require support from garden canes, strings or netting which should be put in place at the time of planting.
