Now a protected species in the wild following overcollection by enthusiasts, you can grow your very own taste of the Alps, namely Edelweiss.Furry, slivery foliage is soft to the touch and holds an abundance of large, showy, lightly fragrant star-shaped blooms from May to August. Held above and almost covering the semi-evergreen mounds, each white flower with a yellow centre has the delicate detail of a large winter snowflake, hence its name ‘Blossom of Snow’. Incredibly hardy down to at least -20 C, Leontopodium nivale subsp. alpinum ‘Blossom of Snow ‘ is deer and rabbit resistant. Prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil of any type other than clay. Plant in a sunny spot of any aspect. This hardy, semi-evergreen holds its foliage from February to November and reaches a height of 30cm with a spread of 40cm.
