Product Description

Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Hydrangea anomala petiolaris is a modern day classic in the world of climbing Hydrangea plants. Grown for their large 15-20cm diameter traditional white flower heads, this premium variety may be a slow starter but will quickly gather up speed after a few years to reach a height of over 12m tall. Difficult to ignore or match during the summer months, resulting in an abundance of colour and gentle fragrance from June to late August. Deciduous by its very nature, the highly attractive green foliage starts to turn to a gentle yellow as autumn approaches. A great choice when looking for hardy climbers, with the added bonus of being highly attractive to bees and butterflies. 9cm pot plants supplied, particularly effective when grown in semi-shade or shaded locations.

Growing at a glance…

Make sure that the hydrangea receives lots of water when the summer comes. Hydrangeas are very low maintenance and will need little pruning, but can be done in spring as new shoots appear. The old shoots should be left in the winter and not removed until spring.Hydrangeas can be grown in fertile, well drained soil and often prefer a shady location. It is also worth thinking about how much exposure the area you wish to plant them in will have towards strong winds, as they can often limit new growth in spring.
