A shade dwelling majestic perennial, Actaea pachypoda Misty Blue is unique and charming, with steel-grey, soft, filigree-like foliage that quickly forms an impressive clump and matures to blue-green as it matures. In spring and early summer, tall stems of white scented flowers become a feast for every passing butterfly and bee. Attractive large, bright white berries follow in late summer and autumn, each with a dark tip and held on red stalks, hence the common name Dolls Eyes. Actaea are also known as Baneberry, the shiny berries are loved by birds but please keep away from children. Actaea Misty Blue is rabbit and deer resistant and will grow to a mature height of approximately 75cm, spreading to around 45-60cm. Actaea prefer to be grown in moist but not boggy soil in dappled, part or full shade. Known since 1732 as Cimicifuga until DNA evidence in 2000 reclassified that they were part of the Actaea family.
