A gladiolus to plant in the autumn for spring colour. Glorious magenta colour flowers with delicate white splashes – up to 20 per stem. Originating in the Mediterranean it will naturalise very well in this country. Flowering after the spring bulbs have gone and before the summer beds have full colour. Flowers May-June. Height 50-60cm; spread 1-10cm.
Growing Information
Grow groups of gladioli in sunny, sheltered borders on well drained soil. Gladioli require excellent drainage to prevent them from rotting. Improve heavy soils by adding plenty of well rotted manure and grit prior to planting. Plant gladiolus corms at a depth of 10cm (4”) and a distance of 15cm (6”) apart.
