A symbol of fertility, abundance and marriage in Armenia, pomegranates are also used heavily in middle-eastern cooking, mixing in its juicy, sweet inner seeds into salads or hummus as a pop of texture and flavour, or use it’s flesh in desserts and other savoury dishes. Pomegranate ‘Provence’ is a self-fertile and multi-stemmed fruit tree that produces it’s incredible brown-red fruits in October and November ready for harvesting. Surprisingly hardy and growable in the UK, as it tolerates temperatures down to -15c, particularly when grown in sheltered conditions. Grow in a large container for easy transporting in the cold winter months, to warmer spots in the garden. Height: 3m (10′). Spread: 1.5m (5′).
Growing Information
Grow Pomegranate trees in rich fertile, well drained soil. For the best chances of fruiting choose a warm, sheltered position in full sun. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil to improve drainage and soil fertility. Plant Pomegranates at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery.
