These superb plants have a dwarf, cascading, spreading growth habit, ideal for ground cover purposes. Two flower stems are produced in each leaf axil, ensuring that plants produce large quantities of blooms throughout the summer, in a range of bright colours. Flowers June-September. Height 40-45cm (16-18″).
Sowing Information
For early flowering, sow 3 seeds 1.3cm (½”) deep per 10cm (4″) pot of quality compost, in a greenhouse/indoors at approximately 13-15°C (55-60°F). Germination 10-21 days. Acclimatise the plants to outside conditions and plant out April-May at 21cm (9″) spacing. Alternatively, sow direct into warm, moist, weed-free soil where the plants are to flower in late April-May. Pinch the growing tips of plants when they reach 3-4 pairs of leaves to promote more shoots and a bushy habit. As the plants grow, use ‘pea sticks’ from the hedgerows to pin the shoots down and encourage a spreading growth habit. Use of a liquid tomato feed will encourage growth of shoots.
