Tell Me More…
While many alstroemerias bloom in rich, hot colours, Alstroemeria Duc d’Anjou ‘William’ offers a softer, paler alternative. Like all alstroemeria it boasts a generous flowering period, lasting from June until October. Though exotic-looking, the Ducs d’Anjou range in particular are far hardier than you would expect and able to tolerate temperatures as low as -15°C (H5). Not only will they easily cope in most UK gardens, plants are also noteworthy for their longevity, with many lasting for decades after planting. We love seeing Alstroemeria Duc d’Anjou ‘William’ in a pastel scheme alongside other long-flowering summer perennials such as Penstemon ‘Apple Blossom’, Nepeta grandiflora ‘Summer Magic’ and Erysimum ‘Bowles Mauve’. Blooms also make fabulous cut flowers, with stems up to 50cm tall, and are beloved by arrangers for their vase life of two to three weeks. ‘Pull’ rather than cut stems, as this encourages further blooms and avoids damage to the crown. For best results grow Alstroemeria Duc d’Anjou ‘William’ in full sun or partial shade. Plant in any well-drained soil, either in a container or open ground.
