Native to the mountains of China and the Himalayas, Meconopsis grow almost anywhere that is not in direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The name Meconopsis means ‘looking like a poppy’, the single flowers boast an ethereal beauty that most Papaver cannot hope to achieve. Your ‘Mystical Meconopsis’ collection comprises; betonicifolia ‘Lingholm’ – the famous ‘Himalayan Blue Poppy’ boasting rich blue blooms with bright sunshine yellow stamen from May to July, height 1m, spread 50cm, hardy to around -15°C; baileyi ‘Alba’ – unusual and pristine white petals surround a burnt orange centre created by the protruding stamen from May to July, height 1m, spread 50cm, hardy to around -10°C; and baileyi ‘Hensol Violet’ – originating from Hensol Castle in Wales, silky flowers in vivid violet-blue with contrasting yellow stamens in May and June, height 1.2m, spread 50cm, hardy to around -10°C.
