Add striking visual impact to your borders with the bold and dramatic presence of these giant alliums. The Allium Giant Collection showcases massive umbels of purple, pink, and white flowers that make a show-stopping display. Blooming in May and June, these impressive spheres rise gracefully on tall stems above the emerging grasses and perennials, bridging the gap between spring bulbs and the peak summer bloom. A reliable perennial, this collection delivers an eye-catching performance with minimal maintenance. The Allium Giant Collection includes the following varieties: Allium ‘Pinball Wizard’: Sturdy stems reach up to 80cm (31in) and support 10cm (4in) globes of deep purple flowers. Height: 80cm (31in), Spread: 15cm (6in). Allium stipitatum: Tall, slender stems carry compact, flat-topped globes made up of over 100 star-shaped, lilac-pink blooms. Height: 1.5m (5ft), Spread: 15cm (6in). Allium ‘Mount Everest’: Large globes with more than 50 star-shaped white flowers. Height: 1.2m (4ft), Spread: 15cm (6in). Allium ‘Magic’: A hybrid between A. schubertii and A. atropurpureum, this unique variety features a mix of short-stemmed flowers in the center with longer stems around the perimeter. Each 30cm (12in) globe is composed of dark purple, star-like flowers that bloom for an extended period from early summer. Height: 50cm (20in), Spread: 15cm (6in). With their bold shapes and vibrant colours, these giant alliums will elevate your garden with a burst of drama and elegance.

Growing Information

Alliums thrive in light sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4″) and a distance of 10cm (4″) apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.
