Tell Me More…
Bell-shaped blooms in faint lilac shades are tinged and mottled pink. Held on wiry stems ‘Alice Hindley’ flowers her heart out for over six months of the year, from late May to October, often longer. Penstemon are often thought of as the perfect perennial. Easy to grow, happy in either borders or containers, not fussy on soil conditions and happy in sun or partial shade. Once established Penstemon are oblivious to both drought and rain, resistant to slugs and snails, and loved by our friendly pollinators who will come visiting for a feast. Native to North America and East Asia, Penstemon are one of the most valuable plants for late summer and autumn colour. Thriving in most soil conditions they are very easy to propagate and raise new plants. Growing to a height of 75cm-1m and spreading to between 45-60cm, Penstemon ‘Alice Hindley’ is hardy down to -10°C, classed as H4 by the RHS, flourishing outside with no winter protection needed for most UK winters.
