Tell Me More…
An exciting new duo for 2024. ‘Perfect Ilex Pairing’ offers you the deciduous female holly, Ilex verticillata ‘Jingle Bells’, and the evergreen male holly, Ilex meserveae ‘Blue Prince’. Together they are a perfect match with dark blue green foliage, golden autumnal hues and an abundance of beautiful berries over winter. Fabulous material for festive decorations inside and out! Both produce small, white flowers in spring which attract bees and other pollinators who work their magic so that ‘Jingle Berries/ Bells’ produces oodles of scarlet berries on bare branches which are sought out by florists for seasonal bouquets and arrangements and provide birds and other wildlife with vital sustenance. Ilex verticillata ‘Jingle Bells’ is a showy variety which is a hardy (H6) shrub reaching 2.5m in height and spread, with decorative grey bark to accent the scarlet jewels. Ilex meserveae ‘Blue Prince’ is fully hardy and grows as a shrub or tree, reaching a height of 4m, with a spread of 2.5m. He holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden. Your ‘Perfect Ilex Pairing’ prefers moist, well-drained soil (erring towards acidic for ‘Jingle Berries/Bells’ where possible).
