Another lesser known name for Tricyrtis ‘Sinonome’ is the Japanese Orchid Lily. Whenever you see the word ‘orchid’, you expect to see an exotic flower in extravagant colours, and this is certainly what ‘Sinonome’ offers. Blooms emerge in August and last through to September – bringing creamy white flowers, dappled and blotched with burgundy purple and accented by unusual, pronounced stamen. Foliage emerges earlier in March and lasts to November – it is dark green with a slight, waxy sheen and great for filling gaps in borders or bringing verdant interest to containers. Tricyrtis ‘Sinonome’ is a rhizomatous perennial which is easy-going on maintenance and, once established, will last for years. Reaching a height of 90cm and a spread of 60cm, plants prefer a spot in moist, well-drained, fertile soil of any type except clay.
