Tell Me More…
Thunbergia alata ‘SunEyes Orange’ is a fast-growing climber which quickly covers an obelisk, fence, wall or trellis. This beauty will provide a wonderfully dramatic display from spring to autumn, as an abundance of simple yet showy blooms coat the lush green foliage. This thunbergia can also be planted in hanging baskets, where it will trail almost to ground level. Alternatively, plants will create dense mats of weed suppressing groundcover if left to sprawl along the soil. Thunbergia alata ‘SunEyes Orange’ is a native of eastern Africa and often referred to as Black-eyed Susan Vine. A common name which is thought to have come from a character in many traditional ballads who cried as she searched for her lost lover, the flower Sweet William. Some say the two plants flower at the same time because of their great love for each other. Thunbergia alata ‘SunEyes Orange’ prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Reaching a mature height of 2.4m, it is a tender perennial (often grown as an annual) which will need frost protection during the cold winter period.
