Geranium sanguineum var. striatum is an exciting and often underused garden treasure. Plants will create a carpet of finely divided almost ferny foliage which supresses weeds and offers beneficial groundcover from March through to November each year. Then, in June, this carpet is wrapped with pale pink, saucer-shaped blooms up to 4cm across. Full of pollen and nectar, flowers will draw in bees, butterflies and other pollinators – eager to visit the flowers to claim their bounty.Geranium sanguineum var. striatum is resilient and easy going, creating a classic layer to the front of borders, spilling over containers and scrambling across a rock garden whilst requiring little in the form maintenace. This pink beauty will even settle under shrubs and trees for added colour.Geranium sanguineum var. striatum reaches a height of approximately 15cm and spreads to 30cm. Relatively unfussy it prefers to be grown in well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade. As a fully hardy perennial it survives most winters outside with no need for protection.
