A new and unique variety of Berberis, ‘Maria’ is grown for its bright golden foliage and compact, bushy yet upright growing habit. This attractive shrub is a slow grower producing an ideal, dwarf specimen plant. In autumn small, glossy red berries appear, and these are very popular with garden birds. This Berberis will eventually form a column of bold foliage reaching a maximum height of around 1 metre – a wonderful golden type of the ever popular Berberis ‘Helmond Pillar’.
The perfect plant to provide a source of bright, golden foliage, it is happy at the front of a border or in a patio container, just be sure to keep moist and well-drained. Why not try planting a few of these ‘Maria’ to use as an informal hedge or screen?
