Yuletide is well-named for its mass of rich, red flowers in winter, each bloom has a crown of golden stamens at its centre, creating a festive display.

Flowering from November into January, it peaks around Christmas when the garden is in need of a colour.

The evergreen foliage adds structure to the garden, whether planted borders or a large container. A hardy shrub requiring hardly any maintenance once established.

Growing Information

Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3 and position in dappled shade.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
