Phormium ‘Black Velvet’ produces evergreen foliage that grows in clumps, arching with sword-like shape for an intriguing appearance. Eye-catching not only for it’s shape and size, but also for its dark, bronze-black colour. Red blooms make an appearance in late summer, bringing strong contrast in beds and borders when the sun is out. Growing Information
Grow Phormium on fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a protected position in full sun. Phormiums are well suited to mild coastal locations and can cope in poorer soils, but do enjoy a fertile soil – so it is well worth incorporating some well-rotted manure into the soil when planting.
