A walnut tree is a majestic, large deciduous tree known for its abundant nut production and prized wood. An excellent addition to larger gardens, orchards, or landscapes with space to accommodate its size. Requiring full sun, well-drained soil, and moderate care, it offers both practical value with its nuts and wood, as well as beauty with its wide canopy and unique foliage. With patience, a walnut tree can provide years of enjoyment, whether for harvesting nuts or simply enjoying its shade and grandeur.Walnut trees are monoecious, meaning they have both male and female reproductive organs on the same tree. The male flowers are long, hanging catkins, while the female flowers are much smaller and found in clusters. These trees produce round, green husks that eventually mature into the walnut nut. Height: 30m (100ft). 15m (50ft)

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Growing Information

Grow walnut trees in moist, well drained soil in full sun. When growing walnut trees, choose a sheltered position as young trees can be damaged by frosts. Prior to planting walnut trees, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil, and drive a stake into the planting hole to support the tree once it is planted. Plant walnut trees at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and use a tree tie to fasten the tree to the stake. Walnut roots inhibit the growth of other plants, so for best results avoid planting other plants under the canopy (which roughly mirrors the extent of the roots) or where the canopy will reach in future.
