Tell Me More…
Gentiana asclepiadea is a clump-forming, weed-suppressing and highly beneficial groundcover plant. Slender, elegant and arching stems of verdant, willowy leaves are held from June to November each year. Then, from July to September, Gentiana asclepiadea bears multiples of intensely blue coloured, trumpet shaped flowers, with white interior accents. Flowers emerge from the upper leaf axils to crown the foliage with rich and resplendent colour.Gentiana asclepiadea hails from central to eastern Europe and Iran, where it can be found in woodlands on mountains and hills in the main. Bear this in mind when choosing a spot to plant and you cannot go far wrong. This dependable variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its reliability and outstanding performance.Prefers a spot in dappled shade, although if soil is continually moist (not waterlogged) it can cope with a little more sun. Great for gravel gardens and superb as a cut flower for bouquets and vases. A hardy, herbaceous perennial with reaches 90cm in height with a spread of 50cm.
