Tell Me More…
One of the great unsung heroes of the garden, heuchera is a low-growing, semi-evergreen perennial ideal for a partially shaded border or container display. Though useful for plugging gaps it is more than just a ‘filler’ plant; often stealing the show with its bold, colourful foliage (especially during the winter months). Spring and summer offer additional interest with tall, slender stems bearing loose sprays of tiny pale flowers. Whilst the classic maroon-purple varieties are perhaps most familiar, there is in fact a staggering range of colours available, as showcased by this trio. ‘Phoebe’s Blush’ is a technicolour spectacle; pale pink in spring, later changing through dusky pink, pale green and vanilla. ‘Grape Soda’ is rose pink deepening to a violet purple, leaves burnished with a silver sheen as they mature. ‘Lime Marmalade’ is bright acidic green with a loosely ruffled texture. For best results grow in moist, well-draining soil in partial shade (though ‘Lime Marmalade’ will tolerate full sun). These tough plants can withstand an exposed spot and are hardy to between -15 C and -20 C. H: 30cm S: 30-45cm.
