Tell Me More…
Fill those patches of bare earth with style. The striking and unusual Viola cornuta ‘Molly Sanderson’ will cover ground with fresh green foliage all year. From April to July plants will then ‘wow’ with large, velvety, black blooms along with the exceptionally long flowering period. A closer look reveals hints of deep purple, and a small, golden eye at the centre. Let not its dainty appearance have you fooled though – this little, spreading evergreen originates from a wild species found in the Spanish Pyrenees, and is surprisingly robust. Perfect for planting beneath deciduous shrubs such as roses, at the front of borders or spilling over paths and container edges.Prefers fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil of any kind in full sun or partial shade. Height 20cm with a spread of 25cm. A hardy, evergreen perennial. Benefits from cutting back after flowering, to maintain a neat appearance and encourage a further flush of blooms.
