Muscari armeniacum is a classic Grape Hyacinth that will burst with tight spikes of flush blue flowers for three months in April to May, where if naturalised it will create a carpet of colour similar to that of a daffodil (only blue!). A super easy to grow spring bulb that looks great planted underneath trees or around shrubs as ground cover, equally it can be used on rockeries, banks, cottage schemes, patio pots, you name it! Anywhere it’s planted, ensure the bees and pollinators can get to it’s sweet nectar. This RHS AGM variety looks great planted with other spring bulbs, and can be used as cut flowers. Height: 20cm (8″). Spread: 10cm (4″).
Growing Information
For the best effect, plant muscari bulbs in large groups. Grape hyacinth plants prefer a sunny or semi-shaded position in moist, well drained, fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Plant bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4″) and a distance of 5cm (2″) apart.
