Is it a cabbage or is it an Iceberg lettuce??? The perfect alternative to Iceberg lettuce as the leaves are crisp, thin and extremely tender, perfect to add to salads in summer and autumn. Vigorous, round cabbages which stand well until the first frosts. Used by top chefs (including Jamie Oliver) in salads, coleslaw and even as wraps. Each cabbage weighs around 2kg. RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. Harvest August-October. Height 30-40cm (12-16″); spread 40-50cm (16-20″).
Growing Information
Sow thinly March-June direct into a finely raked seedbed at a depth of 13mm (½”). Germination up to 21 days. Transplant with a trowel when large enough to handle allowing 38cm (15″) between plants each way. Can also be sown January-February in a propagator, on a windowsill or in a greenhouse at approximately 10-15°C (50-60°F) using a quality compost. Cover seeds with 6mm (¼”) sieved compost. Transplant seedlings into 75mm (3″) pots, grow on and finally plant out.
