Crab Apple ‘Red Sentinel’ in May will become decorated with masses of dainty white blooms. After which, yellow fruits emerge with red tinges – a colour that deepens to scarlet right before Christmas time. Makes for a very attracted specimen tree, suited well for small gardens providing interest right through the year. Fruits can be used to make jelly and any leftovers or unpicked fruits, can be used as food for birds and wildlife. Self fertile, meaning it makes for a great pollinating partner for orchard apples. Height and spread: 3m (10′).
Growing Information
Plant crab apple trees in a sheltered, sunny position in any fertile, well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well.
